FeedingWe feed our ferrets on a complete dry ferret food mix. I also put a little dry kitten food on top as they seem to like this. Ferrets teeth seem to be prone to tartar build up especially if they eat moist food. The dry food seems to keep their teeth cleaner. Ferrets don't seem to overeat, so we find it is ok to leave dry food in their bowl for them to eat as and when. Make sure your ferrets have plenty of clean water to drink, especially so if you are feeding dry food. We put water in a deep dish as the ferrets seem to like dunking their faces in it. As occasional treats, both ferrets like chopped cucumber, apple, melon, margarine, butter, pasta, sultanas, raisins, ferretvite, smooth peanut butter (not chunky as they can cause a blockage as ferrets can't digest nuts) All fruits etc should be chopped small as ferrets are obligate carnivores and can't digest them, they do however love them but shouldn't get too many as treats as they will lose condition. Both also love milk but it makes them squitty. |

Polie also likes weetabix, chopped dried apricots and chocolate. She only gets minute slivers of chocolate as it has the same effect on ferrets as on dogs, too much will kill them. |
